If your administrator approves it, funds are returned to your account.
An LMN is a signed statement from a licensed clinician explaining that a product or service is medically necessary to support diagnosis, treatment, or monitoring of a health condition. Most HSA and FSA administrators require an LMN before they'll reimburse you for certain products and services. If you qualify, a clinician in Burst's network can issue one as part of your clinical intake, so you don't need a separate appointment. Whether a Letter of Medical Necessity is issued is the independent clinical judgment of the reviewing practitioner. HSA and FSA reimbursement is determined by your plan administrator and is not guaranteed.
Burst is the service that helps qualified customers use HSA or FSA dollars on health and wellness products. After you check out, you complete a clinical intake form. If a clinician determines an LMN is appropriate, Burst issues it and files your claim with your HSA or FSA administrator. If approved, funds are returned to your bank account. No. Use whichever debit or credit card you'd normally use. Burst handles reimbursement after your purchase, so qualifying funds come back to your account instead of coming out of a special card at checkout.
Many plans allow partial reimbursement. If your available balance doesn't cover the full amount, your administrator may reimburse the portion you have available.
Qualified customers save an average of 30%* when paying with pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars. Actual savings vary based on tax bracket, plan rules, and available balance.
It's rare. Clinicians cannot backdate a Letter of Medical Necessity (IRS rule), and your LMN must be dated on or before the purchase date. If you already have an LMN that covers a past purchase, send it through and Burst can file a retroactive claim. Going forward, the cleanest path is to complete your LMN request at the time of purchase, and check your plan for any retroactive flexibility.
If your existing LMN covers the Adam Sensor, you can submit it through Burst and Burst will file your claim. If you don't have one, a clinician in Burst's network can review your clinical intake and issue one where appropriate.
